The Mission: Go to Japan's Premium Agency for PS3 training for 3 months, then come back to Singapore and help train 200 people in PS3 game development within 2 years.
I had chosen to accept the "impossible mission". The mission carried with it a 2 year bond, which I had to sign off my freedom in exchange for more work and not proportionately more pay.
As Hideo Kojima presented in his slides during his keynote speech at the recent GDC 2009:
IMPOSSIBLE
I'M POSSIBLE
M I Possible
Make It Possible
Anyway, I've grown up on: "The Impossible we do at one, Miracles take a little longer". I always try to look past the arrogance and see the challenging spirit of the motto.
Kojima said, "Japanese game design overcomes hurdles through re-thinking, whereas Western game design overcomes obstacles through technology". Where does that leave us, neither free to focus on creativity, nor free to explore the fun of technology?
