ma mo naku...

“間もなく、渋谷、渋谷です。”
"Ma mo naku, Shibuya, Shibuya desu..."

If you take the densha (電車, train/subway) often in Japan (which I don't) you'd be very familiar with the phrase above. As a train approaches the eki (駅, station), the operator or pre-recorded voice would announce its imminent arrival. The ma is a gap, in this case a gap in time, and naku means there is none. The phrase can be loosely translated into English as "in no time".

Why am I talking about this? Because for two straight days I've been modeling the 新南口(shin-minamiguchi, New South Exit) of the 渋谷駅 (Shibuya station).

I suspect the background modeling course was designed for beginners, since the exercise was supposed to be done in two days using simple low-polygon modeling. But since we're working with PS3 graphics here, I naturally want to achieve a quality worthy of the PS3. Alas, two days is not enough time to create a fully textured model of a train station to the quality level of the PS3.

This is what I have so far, after sleeping less than 5 hours for two days. I could've done more and faster if I didn't worry about accurate proportions and polygons optimization as I model. I'm getting more familiar with Maya, but it's still not my preferred tool of choice.

Ron is reponsible for the trees and textures. Hopefully we can finish it by the revised deadline next week. I still haven't completed my tech demo for Kawashima-san. Again, I am proceeding slowly because I have personal objectives to meet. I shall have to rethink my strategy, since we were planning to go to Mt. Fuji this weekend, and I certainly won't want my weekend burnt.

A.M. With Murase-san, we examined a few court cases of copyright infringement of Japanese games. Seems like the rights goes to companies with more money to appeal court rulings.

P.M. Matsuura-san continues with part 2 of the 4-part course on BG modeling. To be honest, we already know most of the stuff he was going through. After the quick lesson, we continued with our assignment.

Why am I up at 2am writing this? 頑張れなきゃ!
